Treatment & fees

Everything we do, and everything it costs

No page behind this one. The conditions, the treatments, the course, the whole fee list and the cancellation terms are all below — because the two questions that stop people booking are “will this help me?” and “where does the bill end?”, and neither gets answered by a contact form.

Conditions

Indexed by where it hurts

Each region lists the term most people search for and the term that will appear in your notes. They are usually not the same word, and that is not your fault.

Treatments

Six things we do, and when each is worth it

Assessment & diagnosis

Subjective history, then an objective examination: range of motion measured rather than estimated, strength tested, and the relevant cluster of special tests. You leave with a working diagnosis and a baseline score, not an impression.

45 min · £72

Manual therapy

Mobilisation, soft tissue work and muscle energy technique. It settles symptoms and buys a window in which loading is tolerable — which is what it is for. Used alongside a programme, not instead of one.

Within a follow-up · 30 min · £62

Progressive loading & rehab

The half of physiotherapy that holds. Eccentric and heavy-slow loading for tendons, graded exposure where fear of movement is doing the damage, proprioception and return-to-sport testing after a knee.

Extended follow-up · 45 min · £78

Shockwave (ESWT)

For stubborn tendon problems — plantar heel pain, insertional Achilles, calcific shoulder — that have not moved with loading alone. It is sold as a course of three over three weeks because a single session is not a treatment.

20 min · £85 · course of three £225

Acupuncture & dry needling

Western medical acupuncture, added to a treatment session where it is clinically indicated. Aled is AACP-trained and the clinic holds the local authority skin- piercing registration that needling requires.

Added to a follow-up · no extra charge

Biomechanical & gait assessment

Treadmill work filmed and played back in slow motion, with a written report. Run by Marguerite. If the answer is a change to your loading rather than an orthosis, that is what the report will say.

The course

What a course of treatment actually looks like

  1. Session 1 · 45 min

    Assessment

History, examination, working diagnosis, baseline outcome measure, and an estimate of the number of sessions.

  2. Same session

    Plan agreed

Written down: the diagnosis, what we do, what you do, and the expected total. You approve it before anything is booked.

  3. Sessions 2–3

    Treatment & loading

Hands-on work to settle symptoms, paired from the first day with the loading programme that does the lasting work.

  4. Session 4 · review

    Re-measure

Same outcome measure, repeated. Numbers moved — carry on. Numbers flat — change the plan, or refer you on.

  5. Session 5 · typically

    Discharge

A supported self-management plan, the progressions, and what would justify ringing us again.

A patient working through a resistance-band exercise with a clinician supporting the movement

Outcome measures we use: MSK-HQ, the Patient-Specific Functional Scale, the numeric pain rating scale, and condition-specific scores — SPADI for shoulders, the Oxford Knee Score, QuickDASH for the upper limb, and STarT Back at first contact for low back pain. Using validated measures is an explicit requirement of the CSP's quality assurance standards, not a flourish.

Fees

Every fee, with the session length attached

A price without a duration is not a price. There is no booking fee, no card fee and no assessment supplement; the figure in the right-hand column is the figure you pay.

Effective 1 January 2026. Yorkshire pricing.

The number people actually want

An assessment plus four follow-ups — the median course, here and nationally — is £320, or £304 if the follow-ups are bought as a block. That is the honest answer to “what will this cost me”, and it is the number we will confirm or revise in writing at the end of your assessment.

Insurance

Recognised by Bupa, AXA Health, Vitality, Aviva, WPA and Healix; billed directly through Healthcode. AXA Health wants a pre-authorisation number before your first visit. Most policies open with a block of around six sessions — if you need more, we write the clinical justification.

Cancellations

Twenty-four hours' notice, no charge. Under twenty-four hours, half the fee. A missed appointment, the full fee. No insurer covers either — that always falls to you, so we would rather you knew now.

Paying

Card or bank transfer at the end of each appointment. Blocks are paid up front and refunded pro-rata if you are discharged early. We do not run maintenance plans or direct debits.

The kit, and what it is for

Before you book

The four things people ring to ask

Do I need a referral from my GP?

No. Private physiotherapy needs no referral of any kind — not from a GP, not from a consultant, not from the NHS MSK service. You can ring this morning and be assessed this week. The only exception is insurance: AXA Health asks for a GP referral and a pre-authorisation number before your first appointment, and Bupa wants you to go through its Direct Access line to get an authorisation code. We will tell you exactly what to ask for.

How many sessions will I need?

About five for a straightforward problem, which is also the national median — an assessment and four follow-ups, roughly £320. We will give you a written estimate at the end of the assessment and we re-measure at session four, so if it is not working you find out from us rather than working it out yourself six appointments in. Persistent pain, post-surgical rehab and return-to-sport work all run longer, and we will say so up front.

What should I wear, and what happens first?

Something you can move in and that lets us see the area — shorts for a knee, hip or ankle, a vest top for a shoulder or neck. The first twenty minutes are questions, not hands: what you did, when it started, what makes it worse, what you need to get back to. Then the examination. Gowns are available and you are welcome to bring someone in with you.

What if physiotherapy is not the answer?

Then we say so, and you pay for the assessment and nothing else. Some things need a GP, an orthopaedic opinion or imaging we do not do here, and a few need same-day medical attention. We would rather write you a clear letter to take to someone else than start a course of treatment that was never going to help.

Or ask for the free fifteen-minute call first. We will tell you honestly whether it is worth your coming in — that conversation costs us a quarter of an hour and saves you seventy-two pounds if the answer is no.
