Transom Counselling & Psychotherapy · Lancaster Ask about a free call

Contact

Two lines is enough.

You do not need to explain yourself to get a reply, and you do not have to speak to anyone to start. Say roughly what is going on and which hours you could actually come. A named therapist answers within two working days.

Enquiry

Or use this, if a blank email is worse

Everything here is optional except how to reach you. Nothing you write goes anywhere but one mailbox, read by Ruth and Marek, and it is deleted if you do not go ahead.

Please do not describe an emergency here. This mailbox is read twice a working day. If you need somebody now, the numbers are at the bottom of this page.

Access, stated properly

  • One flight of stairs, seventeen steps Handrails both sides. There is no lift. If stairs are a problem, say so when you write — Ruth holds a ground-floor room on Tuesdays at a partner practice on Sun Street, at the same fee.
  • A quiet landing to wait on Two chairs. Nobody will approach you or ask you anything until your therapist opens the door.
  • Parking No spaces of our own. St Nicholas Arcades multi-storey is a four-minute walk; on-street on Sun Street is two hours maximum.
  • By train Lancaster station is one minute away on foot, which is the main reason the practice is on this lane.
  • Assistance dogs Welcome in every room, no notice needed.
  • Online instead Same fifty minutes, same fee, UK-hosted video. About a third of the work here is done this way.

Before you write

The questions people say they were embarrassed to ask

Am I not ill enough for this?

There is no threshold. Most people who come here are working, functioning and would not be picked up by any service. The free call exists partly so you can ask this question to a person instead of to a search engine.

Do I have to talk about my childhood?

No. Daniel's work goes there more than the others' because that is what psychodynamic therapy is, and he will say so on the call. Nobody here will make you say anything.

What if I cry, or cannot speak at all?

Both are ordinary. A first session where nothing much gets said is a normal first session and it is not a wasted fifty minutes.

Can I change therapist?

Yes, and you can ask for that at any point, including after one session. Say it to whoever you are seeing or write to Ruth. It will not be taken personally and it does not need a reason.

How do I know a concession place is real?

Because we tell you when they are full and we do not open a waiting list for them. As of April 2026, two of the six are free. Means-tested on household income, no time limit, and the fee does not go up once you are in one.

Will you write to my employer, or to insurance?

No. If you were referred through an employee assistance programme they receive attendance dates only, and we will tell you that before the first session rather than after.

If you need help tonight

We are a weekly appointment, not an emergency service. Email here is read twice a working day and not at all at night, at weekends or during our breaks. If waiting until then is not safe, use one of these instead — all four are free and all four are answered.
