Sessions & fees
Every number, on one page.
Six of the eight practices we looked at while building this site publish no fee anywhere. Two publish one only inside a cancellation policy. Here is ours, including the parts that cost you money when things go wrong.

Fees from 1 April 2026
What things cost
Bank transfer on the day of the session. No card surcharge, no admin fee, no charge for the first call. Fees are reviewed once a year in April and you get two months' notice of a change.
Introductory call
FreeTwenty minutes, phone or video, with the therapist you would see. No obligation and no follow-up if you decide against it.
Individual session
£58Fifty minutes, with Ruth, Daniel or Marek. The same fee for the first session as for every other one — there is no assessment surcharge.
Individual session with Dr Pryce
£95Fifty minutes with an HCPC-registered counselling psychologist. The higher fee reflects a doctoral training and a statutory register, not a better outcome.
Concession place
£38Six places held permanently, means-tested on household income, no time limit while you are using one. Mostly daytime, because that is when the rooms are free — which is honest about why they exist.
Couples session
£85Sixty minutes with Ruth. Both of you are the client; neither of you gets a private line to the therapist between sessions.
Clinical supervision
£65Sixty minutes, for qualified therapists and for trainees on placement. Ruth is a BACP-accredited supervisor.
Late cancellation, under 48 hours
Full feeIncluding illness, work and childcare. It is not a penalty; the hour is held for you and cannot be given to anybody else at short notice. Two exceptions a year, no questions, no evidence.
Sessions during our planned breaks
NothingTwo breaks a year, dated four weeks ahead. You are not charged to hold a slot while we are away.
The frame
The whole working agreement, before you write to us
Therapists call the practical arrangements the frame: same time, same room, same length, same fee, and what happens when one of us cannot make it. It is normally produced at the first session, once you have already committed. Here it is instead.

The therapeutic hour is fifty minutes. It starts on time and it finishes on time, including when you arrive late.
The same day and hour each week, held for you for as long as the work runs. Fortnightly is possible with Ruth or Marek; it is not how most of this work is done and we will say why.
Bank transfer on the day. £38 for one of the six means-tested concession places, £95 with Dr Pryce, £85 for couples at sixty minutes. No card fee, no admin fee, no joining fee.
Cancel or move a session with more than 48 hours' notice and there is nothing to pay. Inside that, the session is charged, because the hour cannot be given to anyone else.
No minimum number of sessions, no contract, no notice period, no renewal. You can stop after one. We will ask for a final session if you do, and you can decline that too.
A session set aside to look at whether this is working, measured on CORE-10 rather than on how the room feels that week.
Two planned breaks a year, dated at the start. Sessions during our break are not charged.
Three rooms on the first floor at 6 Meeting House Lane, or video on a UK-hosted platform. Same fee either way.
Modalities
Four approaches, what each is actually like
Choosing between these is not really your job — it is what the free call is for — but you should not have to take the choice on trust either.
| Approach | In the room | Typical length | With |
|---|---|---|---|
| CBT and schema | A written formulation early. Between-session tasks. You will be asked to record things. | 12–20 sessions | Dr Pryce |
| Psychodynamic | Less structure, more silence. Attention to what happens between you and the therapist, because it tends to repeat what happens elsewhere. | A year and up | Daniel |
| Person-centred | You set the agenda each week. No technique is applied to you. The relationship is the method. | Open | Marek |
| Integrative | Person-centred ground with structure borrowed where it helps, and named when it is. | Open | Ruth |
| EMDR | Not offered here. We will refer you on rather than approximate it. | — | Referral |
Scope
What we work with — and what we don't
The second column is the one almost no practice publishes. Being told at the end of a paid assessment that you are in the wrong place is worse than reading it now.
We work with
- Anxiety, panic and worryIncluding health anxiety and anxiety that has narrowed what you can do.
- Low moodWhere it is not currently severe enough to need medical management — see the other column.
- Bereavement and lossIncluding losses that were never treated as losses: a job, a country, a pregnancy, a marriage.
- Work, burnout and identityThe single most common reason people write to us in January.
- Relationship difficultyIndividually, or as a couple with Ruth.
- Long-standing patternsThe same thing happening again with different people. Open-ended psychodynamic work with Daniel.
- OCD, and trauma-focused workWith Dr Pryce, who is HCPC-registered, and where we would also want you to have a GP involved.
We don't, and here is where to go
- Anyone who needs to be seen todayNHS 111 option 2, or Samaritans on 116 123. We are not a crisis service and we do not read email at night.
- Active psychosis or maniaYour GP, or NHS 111 option 2. Talking therapy is not the first thing you need.
- An eating disorder needing medical monitoringGP referral to a specialist service. Beat's helpline is 0808 801 0677.
- Addiction needing a detoxYour GP, or Change Grow Live in Lancaster. We can work alongside recovery, not instead of it.
- ADHD or autism assessmentWe do not diagnose. Ask your GP about referral, or about Right to Choose.
- Court reports and medico-legal workWe do not undertake it, and we will not write one later for work that started as therapy.
- Under-18sEighteen and over only. For younger people, your GP can refer to CAMHS, or try Lancashire Mind.
The rooms
What you are actually buying
Fifty minutes in one of three rooms on the first floor. No reception desk, no waiting-room television, no music.

Starting
You do not have to ring anybody
Most people write first. Two lines is enough — what is going on, and which hours you could actually come. You will get a reply from a named therapist, not a reception desk.
Replies within two working days. The free 20-minute call usually happens within three.
