One room. A different finish.

Compare the tile direction, grout and surface in one fixed room. Follow the accent line into its enlarged junction.

A recessed niche brings the face, return and exposed edge together. Follow the accent line; the installer resolves the actual edge after inspection.

The detail is
the design.

Choose a junction. See what belongs in the conversation before a finish is agreed.

A deliberate edge.

A niche brings several tile planes together. Its position, grout lines and exposed edges belong in the setting-out conversation.

Relationship study. Materials and construction are determined by a site survey.

Material first.
Then everything beneath.

Choose a starting point for your room. The brief carries your selection; the survey resolves the preparation.

A brief before
a specification.

Clear decisions in a useful order. Each stage informs the next.

  1. 01

    Read the existing room

Photographs, intended use, access and the surfaces already in place.

  2. 02

    Resolve the relationships

Tile format, grout lines, changes of material and exposed junctions.

  3. 03

    Agree the written scope

Preparation, inclusions and a sequence that fits the actual room.

Before we look
at the room.

Do I need to know the tile yet?

No. A material direction is enough for a first brief. Samples, format and layout can be discussed alongside the room.

What should I photograph?

The whole room, the existing surface and the junctions you want to discuss. Do not expose private documents or people in the photographs.

Is the drawing a construction specification?

No. It is an explanatory relationship study. Actual preparation, waterproofing and junction details require a site-specific assessment.

Your room.
A useful beginning.

Bring the material, the existing surface and your priorities together in one local note.
