The lines that divide the view.

Read a glazing elevation as a set of relationships: fixed and moving panels, frame lines, thresholds and the surfaces around them.

Tall fixed glass

A continuous pane meets a fixed frame. Describe the upper edge, nearby finishes and the ground or room below.

Faces to discuss
Questions for this surface
  • What is beneath the tallest glass?
  • Are the frame finish and glass coating known?
  • Which ordinary route can the provider review?
Read the access conversation

A window-care study. Surface selection is a description, not an access assessment.

Look along the frame lines

Vertical divisions
A line may separate two fixed panes or mark the edge of an opening panel. A photograph alone may not explain how it works.
Horizontal divisions
Transoms, sills and rails can change the shape of a surface. Record obvious divisions without guessing the construction.
Meeting edges
Sliding or paired doors bring together moving parts and seals. Ask what belongs in the cleaning scope and what is excluded.
The surrounding plane
Timber, stone, metal and planted edges can sit close to the glass. Note them so the provider can discuss protection and care.

Use the study as a prompt

Start from one room or one elevation. Describe what you see in everyday words: two tall fixed panes beside a sliding door, a stone sill below, blinds inside. That is enough to make the next questions more specific.

Avoid turning a reference drawing into a specification. Real dimensions, construction, coatings and access conditions need the provider’s review.
