Understanding a history check

What a report can show, and what it cannot promise.

A history check is a report drawn from databases. It is not a mechanical inspection. On this demo we do not run one. The note on each car is a sample record.

What a report often includes

It may show whether the car has been recorded as stolen, written off, imported, or still on a finance agreement. It may show the number of former keepers and whether the mileage readings that were logged go up in a sensible way.

What it will not do

It will not hear a knocking engine. It will not see a poor repair that nobody logged. It will not prove that the service book is honest. Use it beside a viewing and, if you want, an independent inspection.

Mileage

If the readings jump backwards, ask why before you talk about a discount. A story without paperwork is just a story. The registration, which we do not publish here, is what a real check is run against.
