Why we cover the ground we cover

HomeSphere works a deliberately narrow band of London, and the map above is the whole of it. Hampstead and Kew in the north-west, Richmond and Kew along the river, Notting Hill and South Bank through the middle, Shoreditch and Canary Wharf east, Greenwich south of the water. That is eight postcodes rather than eighty, and it is a choice: an agent who covers everywhere knows nowhere in particular, and the difference shows the first time a buyer asks which side of the street gets the evening sun. Every home on this map has been walked by one of the three of us. We know which of these streets floods in a bad November, which of the mansion blocks has a service charge that is about to jump, and which of the "five minutes from the station" claims involves a hill. If you are looking outside this map we will say so and, where we can, name someone who genuinely knows that patch instead.
