Dates

Send us the date and we will answer the same day.

One wedding a weekend. The honest answer arrives quickly, including when the honest answer is that the date has gone.

Ask about a date

The date, the venue and roughly what you are imagining is plenty to start with. Maddie replies the same working day and nothing you write here goes near a mailing list.

What happens after you send it

Maddie reads every enquiry and replies the same working day, usually within a couple of hours, with one of two answers. If the date is free she will say so and offer you a call — at the studio with a coffee and three real albums you can actually hold, or on video if Hebden Bridge is an awkward trip. That call is about half an hour, both of us are on it, and it is mostly us asking about your day rather than us talking about our cameras; by the end of it you will know what our two hundred quid an hour of extra coverage would actually buy you and whether you need it. If the date has gone she will say that just as quickly, and she will give you the names of two other Calderdale studios whose work we would be happy to have at our own wedding. We would rather be useful than be a maybe. Nobody here will chase you, put you on a drip campaign, or send you a discount because you did not reply — if you go quiet we assume you booked somebody else and we wish you well.

Finding the studio, and when it is open

Unit 4 is on the second floor at Linden Mill on Linden Road, five minutes on foot from Hebden Bridge station and about the same from the bus stops on Market Street. There is a lift, and there is parking behind the mill that is free after ten. The studio is open Tuesday to Friday, ten until five, for album viewings and planning calls, and it is genuinely worth coming in person if you can — three albums on a table tell you more in ten minutes than a website tells you in an hour, and the film scanner is usually running. Weekends belong to shoots, so we are almost never here on a Saturday. If you are passing on a weekday, ring first on 07700 900412 and someone will put the kettle on; if nobody answers we are on a session, and Maddie returns calls before she leaves. Email hello@ryburnandgrain.co.uk any time. We cover Hebden Bridge, Todmorden, Mytholmroyd, Sowerby Bridge, Halifax, Haworth, Ilkley, Skipton, Saltaire, Leeds and Manchester without a travel charge, and we go a good deal further with one.

How far ahead people book, and what to do if you are late

Saturdays between May and September go about eighteen months out, and the last weekend in August has gone two years ahead every year since 2019. Fridays and Sundays are far easier and frequently still free inside a year. Winter weddings — which are wonderful, and which get you the four o’clock blue hour without having to stay up for it — we can often take at four months’ notice. Family sessions we can usually fit within three or four weeks, and we hold two Saturday mornings a month back for newborns precisely because nobody can plan those. If your date is inside a fortnight, ring rather than email: it is worth asking, because cancellations do happen and we would rather fill a Saturday than not. And if we cannot help, we will still spend ten minutes on the phone telling you what to look for in whoever you book instead — what a real contract should say about delivery dates, what to ask about backups, and why a second photographer matters more than a longer lens.

Or just ring

Somebody here answers the phone, which should not be remarkable.

07700 900412, Tuesday to Friday between ten and five. If we are on a shoot it will go to voicemail — leave the date and a number and Maddie will ring you back before the end of the day rather than the end of the week.
