Before you book

Questions we hear most.

If you don’t see your question here, Ben answers the phone most days and email always gets a reply within one working day.

The short version

Most first-time enquiries boil down to five things: how long a sitting takes, what it costs, how far in advance to book, what happens to the photographs afterwards, and whether we still work with film. The honest answers, in order, are: about an hour, from £195, twelve to eighteen months for a summer wedding but often just weeks for a studio portrait, they stay in our archive forever at no extra cost, and yes — on request, and often by default for weddings. Everything below goes into more detail, question by question.

Frequently asked questions

Everything we are asked most often, in one place.

Studio sittings are usually 45 to 60 minutes, though we build in extra time for families with young children or anyone who is nervous in front of a camera. Weddings are costed by the hour and typically run a full day, from getting-ready shots through to the first dance.

Yes — every sitting gets a private online gallery within a week, showing every usable frame, and you take as long as you like choosing before anything is printed. We never print or charge for an image you have not approved first.

We have been digital-first since 2011, but Constance shoots weddings on a second, film-loaded camera at no extra charge, and a small number of clients book a genuine film studio sitting each year, priced the same as digital.

In most cases, yes. Priya has repaired water damage, tears, fading and even a photograph that spent a decade in a damp attic — send a scan or bring the original in, and we will tell you honestly what is possible before you commit to anything.

Twelve to eighteen months for a summer Saturday, since we only take on one wedding a day and popular dates go quickly. Weekday and winter weddings can often be booked with a few months’ notice instead.

They stay in our archive indefinitely, at no cost to you, catalogued by year and surname. You can order a reprint or a fresh digital copy at any point in the future — some of our clients have done exactly that, decades later.

Regularly, across Shropshire and into Herefordshire and Powys at no extra charge within twenty miles of the studio; beyond that we add a modest travel fee, quoted honestly before you book, never as a surprise on the invoice.

Deposits are non-refundable, but we will move your date for free with more than 48 hours’ notice, or more than 30 days for a wedding. Inside that window we do our best, though we cannot always guarantee a swap, since another client is often waiting.

Yes — vouchers for any sitting or for a fixed amount, valid for two years, available in the studio or by phone. A popular choice for milestone birthdays and anniversaries when you are not quite sure which sitting someone would choose for themselves.

On pricing and rescheduling, in a bit more detail

Sitting fees are quoted upfront and cover our time, the studio and your private gallery; prints, frames and albums are always ordered separately once you have seen your images, so nothing is added to your bill without your say-so. A deposit of £50 secures a studio date, or 20% for a wedding, and both come off your final total. We would always rather move a date than lose a client over a diary clash — call as early as you can if your plans change, and we will do everything reasonable to accommodate it, though a genuine emergency always takes priority over a routine reschedule.

If you are booking on someone else’s behalf

A good number of our bookings are made by someone other than the person sitting — a daughter arranging a portrait for her father’s eightieth, a best man organising the groomsmen’s half of a wedding day, an office manager booking headshots for colleagues who have not yet weighed in on dates. That is entirely normal, and Ben will happily take the booking from you; we just ask for one direct contact number for the day itself, in case plans change and the person actually sitting needs to be reached quickly.

Questions we get asked less often, but still get asked

A handful of enquiries do not fit neatly into the list above. Yes, we can photograph pets, though we ask that a family member stays in the room for a nervous dog. Yes, we can arrange a sitting outside normal hours for shift workers or a large family flying in from abroad, with enough notice. No, we do not offer same-day printing for studio sittings — the colour-matching step alone takes longer than that, and we would rather deliver a print worth keeping than a fast one worth redoing. And no, there is no charge to simply come in, look at sample albums and frames, and ask Ben anything at all before you commit to booking.

Still have a question?

Call the studio on 01632 960 118, Tuesday to Saturday, and Ben or whoever’s on the desk will do their best to answer on the spot. For anything that needs a considered reply — pricing for an unusual brief, or a restoration query — email hello@fenwickphotographic.co.uk and expect to hear back within one working day. Constance also takes a small number of calls herself on Thursday afternoons, if your question is really one for the photographer rather than the office.
