Fees
Printed on the wall, and printed here.
Every fee this practice charges. If something you need is not listed, ask and we will tell you before we do it.
Consultations and routine care
A standard consultation is £48 for fifteen minutes. A double appointment is £72 and we will suggest one ourselves when the problem plainly needs the time. An annual health check with vaccination is £86 for a dog and £74 for a cat, and includes the full examination set out on the home page. Booster vaccination alone is £62. Microchipping is £22, or free at the same visit as neutering. Nail clips, anal glands, post-operative checks and weight clinics with a nurse are free. Repeat prescriptions are £18 for a written script, and we are legally obliged to tell you that you may take that script elsewhere — so we are telling you, in the same size type as everything else.
Surgery, dentistry and diagnostics
Cat neutering starts at £145 for a male and £182 for a female. Dog neutering starts at £280 and is priced by weight. A dental scale and polish starts at £320 including pre-anaesthetic bloods, fluids and monitoring, with extractions charged by tooth and by difficulty. Lump removals start at £245 including histology, because sending it away is not optional. Digital radiographs are £126 for the first plate and £48 thereafter. In-house bloods are £78 for a general profile with results the same day. Ultrasound is £145. Every surgical estimate is written, itemised and given to you before the animal is admitted, and if we find during the procedure that it will exceed the estimate, we ring you from theatre.
Farm, equine and out-of-hours
Farm visits are £62 to attend plus £58 an hour on the holding, with routine work like TB testing quoted per head in advance. Equine visits are £68 within ten miles of Ludlow and quoted beyond that. Out-of-hours is £180 for the consultation between six in the evening and eight in the morning, at weekends and on bank holidays, plus treatment at ordinary daytime rates — no separate call-out fee and no night premium on drugs. Telephone advice is free at any hour. Euthanasia at the surgery is £96 and at home is £145; individual cremation with ashes returned is £190. We charge nothing at all for the time afterwards, and we do not book another appointment into it.
The health plan, and what it is not
Our monthly plan is £19.50 for a dog and £15.50 for a cat and covers both vaccinations, all year-round flea and worm treatment, two health checks, a nurse dental check and ten per cent off most other work. It saves about a fifth against paying for the same things separately. It is not insurance: it covers the predictable and does nothing whatever for the unexpected, and anybody who tells you otherwise is mis-selling. We recommend that clients hold both, and if you can only afford one of them, hold the insurance and pay for the routine work as it comes.
Why we publish all of it
Most veterinary websites publish a consultation fee and nothing else, and there is a commercial logic to it: prices look worse in a list than they do in a conversation where the animal is already on the table and the clinical need is obvious. We publish everything anyway, for three reasons. It stops the fee being a surprise at the worst possible moment. It means nobody is ever quoted differently because they sounded worried on the telephone. And it forces us to defend our own numbers to ourselves once a year, which is a discipline a practice that only quotes verbally never has to submit to. If you find something we charge for that is not on this page, tell us and it goes on.
What we do not charge for
Telephone advice, at any hour, including the calls that end with us telling you to come in immediately and the many more that end with us saying it can safely wait until morning. Nurse clinics: weight, nails, anal glands, post-operative checks, dental coaching, puppy and kitten visits. The time after a euthanasia, which is never booked over. Repeat visits within a fortnight where the first treatment has not worked as we said it would — if we got it wrong, seeing it again is our problem rather than your bill. And requesting or sending your animal’s records, which belong to you and travel free in both directions.
