The call-out fee first
You hear £75 (sample) when you book, with the first 30 minutes included, before the van sets off.
Sample prices, VAT included
A call-out fee, an hourly rate that depends on the time of day, and a written quote for anything bigger. Every figure here is a sample for a fictional firm, shown with 20% VAT included.
Hourly rates by time of day
The call-out fee stays the same at any hour. Only the hourly rate after the first 30 minutes changes, and the table follows the clock in the edition you are viewing.

Call-out estimator
Pick a job and when it would happen. You get a sample range with the call-out fee and VAT shown separately. It is an estimate, not a quote.
Water you cannot stop, or a smell of gas? Do not wait for an estimate. Ring us on 01632 960 612. For gas or a carbon monoxide alarm, leave the building and ring 0800 111 999 (as reported by National Gas), and 999 if anyone is in danger.
Right now it is 15:16 on Wednesday, so the standard rate applies. Hourly rate £60.
Sample figures for a fictional firm, in the same area as published UK prices: an emergency call-out from about £75 and about £60 an hour (as reported by MyJobQuote, August 2026), a boiler service £80 to £120 and a drain unblock £75 to £250 (as reported by UK Plumber Spot, October 2026, one source). Real prices vary by job and area.
Find and fix a small leak, standard rate. Usually about 30 minutes to 2 hours on site.
An estimate, not a quote. Bigger jobs get a written quote, line by line.
Quote reader
Tick what you see on a quote you have been given. We flag the common red flags and check the amount against a sample range for the job.
Nothing is ticked yet, so there is no verdict. Tick what you see on the quote and at the door, and add the amount.
Sample range for Find and fix a small leak at the standard rate: £80 to £205, VAT included.
Type the amount on the quote to see where it sits against the range.
Out of hours, labour costs 1.5 or 2 times as much, so a night or holiday quote can sit above this range.
A sample tool for a fictional firm, not legal or financial advice. The ranges are samples and real prices vary. A clear tick-list is not a guarantee, so read every line before you agree.
How we price
You hear £75 (sample) when you book, with the first 30 minutes included, before the van sets off.
Bathrooms, boilers and anything over a few hours are priced on paper, line by line, before work starts.
No cash at the door before the work, and no “today only” prices. Take a day and compare quotes.
Every price on this site includes 20% VAT, and a quote shows the VAT line on its own.
Your engineer shows a photo ID card. Check the front and the back, or look the number up online.
Evenings and weekends are 1.5 times the hourly rate, nights and bank holidays are 2 times. The call-out fee stays the same.
About prices
If your question is not here, ask when you ring. We would rather explain than guess.
It covers the van, the engineer’s travel and the first 30 minutes of finding the fault, so a quick fix and a short job cost the same to book. After that we charge by the hour (sample policy).
