DVSA fees are theirs, not ours, and we pass them on at cost: £23 for the theory test and £62 for the practical on a weekday. How the block of ten actually works
You pay £395 for ten hours instead of £420, and the hours are yours to use however suits — two at a time, one a week, or five in a week before a test. There is no expiry date, because a block that expires is a way of keeping money for lessons nobody had. If you pass with hours left over we refund them in full at the single-lesson rate, and roughly one learner in six does. If you decide halfway through that we are not the right school, we refund the balance the same way and without a conversation about it.
What is included, and the two things that are not
Included: the car, the fuel, the insurance, door-to-door collection anywhere inside the bypass, your printed record book, the free theory evening that comes with any block, use of our car for the practical test, and the debrief afterwards whatever the result. Not included, because they are not ours to charge for: the DVSA theory test at £23 and the DVSA practical test at £62 on a weekday. We will book both for you if you would rather not, at cost and with the receipt. Anybody adding a "booking fee" to a government test fee is charging you for two minutes of typing.
Three ways to pay, and none of them is a subscription
On the day
Card in the car or bank transfer that evening. No card is kept on file, nothing recurs, and there is no charge for cancelling with more than twenty-four hours’ notice.
Block of ten, up front
Saves twenty-five pounds and includes the theory evening. Refunded pro rata at the single rate if you pass early or change schools. No expiry, ever.
Instalments on an intensive
A third to book the course and the practical test, a third at the start of week one, the balance at the start of week two. Interest-free, because charging a seventeen-year-old interest would be a strange way to start.
What happens if you need more hours than we said
Sometimes people do, and the honest reason is almost never that they are a bad driver. Illness, a three-week gap over Christmas, a job that moves your lesson every fortnight, or simply a stage that takes longer than average — the roundabouts get most people. When it happens you are told at the lesson it becomes clear, not at hour thirty-eight with a test booked. There is no penalty and no repricing: extra hours are the same forty-two pounds as the first one, and if you are on a block we simply carry on and settle up at the end. What we will not do is put you in for a test to hit a number we quoted you in February.
“I asked three schools what it would cost in total. Bramwell were the only ones who gave me a number and then invoiced me that number.”

Try one hour before you commit to ten.
Nobody should buy a block of lessons from an instructor they have not met. Book a single hour, see how you get on with them, and decide afterwards — that is the order we would want it in ourselves.
