Pricing
Guide rates first, then a fixed number.
Flooring cannot be priced honestly from a website, because subfloors decide half the cost. What we can do is publish the ranges most jobs land in, price the survey at nothing, and fix the quote in writing so the number never moves after it. Nothing here is a special offer — a price that can be discounted on the phone was padded before the call.
The ranges, supplied and fitted
Engineered wood runs £96 to £124 per square metre. Herringbone and chevron parquet, £128 to £165. Luxury vinyl tile, £78 to £102. Sanding and refinishing an existing floor, £44 to £62. Subfloor preparation, where the readings demand it, adds £24 per square metre. Fitting-only — you supply the boards — starts at £42. Borders, thresholds and stair nosings are quoted per metre at the survey. Every range includes waste calculated from the room plan, not padded at the counter. Underfloor heating changes procedure, not price; stairs are quoted per flight; and weekend fitting carries no premium on domestic work, because the vans are out on Saturdays anyway.
Why we do not do day rates
A day rate rewards slow work; a fixed quote rewards preparation. Ours lists materials, preparation, fitting and finishing as separate lines, so if you strike the border off the job you can see exactly what leaves the price. Since 2002 we have re-quoted mid-job only when a lifted floor showed something no survey could see — and each time in writing, before another board went down. The discipline cuts both ways: when a job finishes early the price does not fall, and when the weather steals a day it does not rise.
What a quote contains
Every Datum quote arrives as a two-page PDF. Page one is the number: materials, preparation, fitting and finishing as separate lines, with the square-metre rate against each. Page two is the evidence: the moisture readings by room, the levels shot against the datum, the board specification with mill and grade, and the programme — which day we arrive, which rooms close when, and the day you walk the floor with the straight edge. If a quote you are comparing has no page two, ask what the number is standing on.
Deposits and payment
A third when materials are ordered, nothing more until handover, and the balance after the straight-edge check with you in the room. Card, transfer or cheque — and no cash discounts, because a price that moves for cash was never the real price. Landlords and commercial clients can move to thirty-day terms on account after the first completed job. A VAT invoice follows every payment the same day.
Estimate your floor in thirty seconds
Pick the finish, set the floor area, and the guide range updates as you drag. It prices the floors we actually fit, at the rates current this year — and the survey turns it into a fixed written quote that cannot move.

“Fitted over one weekend, zero closed surgery days, and the invoice was the quote. The readings folder genuinely impressed our compliance auditor.”

A survey takes under an hour, the readings take ten minutes, and the quote that follows is fixed — the figure on the paper is the figure on the invoice. Call the workshop, or book the visit and Elena will confirm within the day.
