The eight we are actually asked, answered here rather than on the telephone.
No. The band price on this page is the whole labour charge, it includes the first hour, and it includes VAT. Parts are extra and every part we fit is on the price list.
Yes, and it has to be. Since 6 April 2025 the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act requires traders to show the total price including all mandatory charges up front. A headline price with the call-out fee and VAT added later is not just the classic locksmith scam — it is now something the CMA can fine a business up to £300,000 or 10% of turnover for.
Only if it cannot be picked, and only after we have told you and you have agreed. Immediate drilling is one of the Master Locksmiths Association’s published red flags, because it turns a labour-only job into a lock sale.
Probably not. A lock stamped “5 lever” is not the same as a lock kitemarked to BS3621 — the kitemark is on the forend, the plate on the edge of the door. Send us a photograph and we will tell you for nothing.
For an emergency repair you specifically asked us to attend, no — regulation 28 of the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 disapplies the 14-day right for urgent repairs. But it still applies to anything additional we sell you while we are there, such as an upgrade or a second lock. We split those on the invoice and give you the cancellation form for the second part.
Our workshop is 14 Frodsham Street, Chester CH1 3JJ, behind the Eastgate. You can walk in. That is deliberate: a real address you can stand outside is the one thing the national lead-generation sites cannot copy.
The median across our last 1,412 emergency call-outs was 34 minutes. We publish the median rather than a best case, because a “15-minute response” you cannot check is worth nothing to you at midnight.
Twelve months on parts and labour, in writing. Some of the trade guarantees ninety days on labour and leaves the parts to the manufacturer — worth asking whoever you ring.
