Three kinds of night, every week of the year
Live · Thursday to Saturday
Touring bands, local bills and about thirty seated shows a year in the stalls. Doors at half past seven, support at eight, headline at quarter past nine, curfew at eleven — printed on the ticket and kept to, because the club night needs the room by half past.
Keep The Faith · Fridays
Northern soul and Motown on original 45s, run by the same three DJs since 2013, 10pm until 3am. Eight pounds in advance, ten on the door, and the only night of the week where the average age in the room is over fifty and the floor is fullest.
The Late Bill · Saturdays
House, disco and UK garage until four in the morning, with the Gods Bar open the whole time. Ten pounds in advance. It is the latest licence in Halifax and the reason the maple gets re-sanded every other summer.
How the bill gets made
Esme books roughly a hundred and eighty shows a year, and she books them herself rather than taking a national promoter’s package. That is a deliberate choice and it costs us money: it means about a third of the bill is regional, a lot of it is first or second album, and several nights a year lose a few hundred pounds on purpose. The trade is that a band who sold sixty tickets here in 2019 comes back and sells four hundred, and that a Halifax act can get a Saturday rather than a Monday. If you are in a band and you want one, the address is on the contact page. Send us a link and the dates you can travel; Esme replies to everything, usually within a fortnight, and quite often the answer is no with a reason attached.
What a night here actually costs you
A live ticket is between twelve and twenty-eight pounds depending on who is playing, and there is no booking fee if you buy in person at the box office. A pint is five pounds twenty and has been since March; soft drinks are two-forty and tap water is free and always will be, on the bar, without asking. Club nights are eight or ten pounds in advance. A balcony booth for six is a hundred and eighty pounds including two bottles, which works out at thirty a head with a seat and a rail. We do not do dynamic pricing, we do not add a fee at checkout that was not on the poster, and the price on the bill is the price you pay.
The balcony, and how to get a box
Four original boxes sit on the front rail of the horseshoe, and they are the best view in the building — close enough to read a setlist, far enough back to hear the room rather than the nearest stack. A box is a hundred and eighty pounds for up to six on a Friday or Saturday, which includes two bottles, a reserved rail and your own staircase to the Gods Bar, so nobody in your group ever queues on the floor. Ring the box office rather than booking online; Esme keeps the boxes on paper because they get moved around all evening as groups grow, and she would rather rearrange them for you than tell you it is full when it is not. They go three or four weeks ahead for a Saturday and the same afternoon for a quiet Thursday.

The mailing list gets first refusal.
Every show goes to the list forty-eight hours before it goes on general sale, which is how the Brasswork night sold out without a poster ever going up. One email a week, on a Wednesday, and nothing else ever.
