If it is happening now

Safe first steps, before anyone arrives

Pick what is going on. You get three safe steps, what not to do, and the right number to ring. For information only: if anyone is in danger, call the emergency services first.

Water you cannot stop

A burst pipe, a leak through a ceiling or a stopcock that will not turn.

  1. Turn the stopcock offTurn it clockwise until it stops. It is usually under the kitchen sink, or where the pipe comes into the house.
  2. Open the cold tapsRun them until they stop, and flush a toilet once. Switch the heating and any immersion heater off so they do not run dry.
  3. Make it safe indoorsMove valuables, catch drips in a bucket and keep clear of wet sockets. Switch the electricity off at the fuse board only if you can reach it without standing in water.

Please do not

  • Touch electrics with wet hands, or while standing in water
  • Use the boiler or an immersion heater if water has reached it
  • Wait to see if it stops by itself

Our price promise

The fee first, and no surprises

Most people ring a plumber when something has already gone wrong. So we say the cost first, in plain words.

How we price

The call-out fee, said first

You hear £75 (sample) when you book, with the first 30 minutes of finding the fault included, before the van sets off.

Bigger work on paper

Bathrooms, boilers and anything over a few hours are priced line by line, with the VAT shown on its own, before any work starts.

No pressure, ever

No cash at the door before the work and no “today only” prices. Take a day, compare quotes, and ask us anything.

Water off in forty minutes

“A pipe went under the bathroom floor on a Sunday night. Aisha on the phone told us where the stopcock was, and the van was with us in under an hour. The call-out fee was said out loud before they set off.”

Serviced, and nothing upsold

“The annual service took about fifty minutes. He showed me his card at the door and the readings afterwards, and did not once try to sell me a new boiler.”

Calm on a bad night

“A burst pipe in the loft at 1 am. They talked us through turning it off, arrived inside the time we were told, and the ceiling dried out without a stain.”

Good questions

What people ask first

Short, honest answers. Ask us anything else when you ring.

Not for bigger work. For a repair we tell you the call-out fee when you book. For a bathroom, a new boiler or other larger jobs, you get a written quote before any work starts, and you can say no (sample policy).

A person answers the 24/7 line, and the usual arrival time for the time of day is shown at the top of every page (sample). In bad weather it can take longer, and we will tell you honestly rather than promise a time we cannot keep.

By law, gas work can only be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer, and every engineer carries a photo ID card with a licence number. Check the front and the back of the card, or look the number up on the Gas Safe Register (as reported by the Gas Safe Register). Our sample card is on the About page.

Services booked online or by phone usually carry a 14-day right to cancel, but if you ask us to start work inside that window you pay for the work done, and urgent repairs are treated differently (as reported by Which?). This is general information, not legal advice, so read the terms you are given.

Something wrong right now? Ring us.

A person answers, tells you the call-out fee and the usual arrival time, and talks you through the safe first steps while the van is on its way.
