Bramble & Broom · Frome · Since 2011

The house you meant to keep, kept.

Domestic housekeeping in Frome and the villages, done to conservation standards by people we employ, train and pay properly — the same person at your door every week, plant-based products in the cupboard, and no bleach anywhere near your stone or your wood.

What a regular visit actually includes

Written down because “a clean” means something different in every house. This is the standard round; anything else is agreed at the walk-round and priced before we start.
  • Kitchen surfaces, hob, splashback and sink descaled
  • Bathrooms: limescale, glass, taps polished dry
  • Floors vacuumed and mopped, edges included
  • Beds stripped and remade if linen is left out
  • Dusting high and low — skirtings, frames, sills
  • Mirrors and interior glass, microfibre and distilled water
  • Bins emptied, liners replaced, recycling sorted
  • Stairs and banisters, spindles by hand
  • Wood cleaned pH-neutral — never a wet mop
  • Appliance fronts, handles and light switches
  • One “extra” of your choosing each visit
  • A note left saying exactly what was done
Not included as standard: oven interiors, the insides of kitchen cupboards, windows and carpets. Ovens have their own price on the Prices page and cupboard interiors come with a deep clean; windows above the ground floor and carpet extraction we do not do at all, and we will tell you who does.

What we do

Regular housekeeping

From £22 an hour, minimum three hours, weekly or fortnightly. The same cleaner every visit and a named cover person when they are away — you will never open the door to a stranger.

Deep cleans & end of tenancy

From £340 for a three-bed deep clean; end-of-tenancy from £395, and if the agent marks the clean down we come back inside 48 hours at no charge. Two people, a full day, and a checklist the agent gets a copy of.

Linen & holiday lets

Linen collected Tuesday and back Friday at £14 a basket. Holiday-let changeovers from £58, photographed on the way out so you can see the room the guest will.

Do we come to your street?

Type your town and we will tell you which day our round reaches it and when the next regular slot opens. Everything below is a real opening in the diary, not a form that emails you back next week.

Started with one bucket and a bus pass

Nell Carwardine spent five years in the housekeeping team at a National Trust manor outside Bath, learning to clean things that could not be replaced. She started Bramble & Broom in 2011 with one client, one bucket and a bus pass. Fifteen years on there are eleven of us, about 170 households on the round and 340 served since we started, and the rule she started with has not moved: gentle methods, honest hours, and the same face at the door.

The cupboard, the kit, the light

“Nell knew not to put anything wet on the limestone before I did — and I have lived here eleven years.”
Harriet Voss, Georgian townhouse, Catherine Hill

Why the round is small on purpose

We could take twice the work. Every year somebody offers to sell us a franchise model and every year the sums say the same thing: a cleaner who spends forty minutes driving is a cleaner who rushes the second house. So the round grows by a street at a time, we say no to villages we cannot reach properly, and the coverage checker above tells you the truth about the wait rather than putting you on a list. It is the least ambitious business plan in Somerset and it is why people stay a decade.

The questions we are asked at the door

  • Yes. You get a named cleaner and a named cover person, and you meet both before either lets themselves in.
Start with a walk-round

Half an hour, your kitchen table, no obligation.

Nell comes to you, walks the house, and writes the hours it honestly needs — not the hours that fit a package. You get the quote, the name of the person who would clean for you, and a month you can cancel any time.
