How Datum runs a job
Four stages, each recorded on the job sheet and signed off before the next begins — the same sequence on every job since 2002.
Survey & readings
Elena visits within three working days, measures every room and takes hygrometer readings. A screed we do not trust gets a calcium carbide test on the spot.
Preparation
Subfloor levelled to SR1 — three millimetres over three metres — then primed, while your boards acclimatise on site for seven days, stacked and stickered.
Fitting
Set out from the room datum so herringbone points meet the doorway square and borders finish even at every wall. Expansion gaps to BS 8201 throughout.
Finish & handover
Oiled or lacquered, beading fitted, sanding dust-extracted — and the readings from day one handed over in the handover pack, next to the guarantee.
What we fit
Engineered wood
Oak, walnut and ash from £96 per square metre supplied and fitted — floating or fully bonded, over screed or timber, underfloor heating included. Boards from 14 to 20 mm, in widths chosen to suit the room.
Herringbone & chevron
Parquet from £128 per square metre, set out from a centre datum line so the pattern lands square in the doorway — the detail everyone notices without knowing why. Blocks from 70 to 120 mm, scaled to the space.
Restoration & LVT
Original blocks sanded, repaired and refinished from £44 per square metre. Luxury vinyl tile from £78 where the traffic is hardest. Both carry the same ten-year written guarantee as new timber.
Estimate your floor in thirty seconds
Pick the finish, set the floor area, and the guide range updates as you drag. It prices the floors we actually fit, at the rates current this year — and the survey turns it into a fixed written quote that cannot move.

Book a free surveyThe firm the readings built
Marcus Whitfield founded Datum in 2002 after ten years fitting floors other people had quoted, with one rule that still runs the firm: never lay a board over a number you have not measured. Elena Sobczak runs every survey, Josh Tan leads the parquet work, and nothing is fitted until the subfloor readings say it can be. The vans carry the same kit whether the job is a box room or a showroom, and the handover pack — readings, levels, guarantee — is identical too.
Recent work, drawn to scale
“They matched the 1908 pine blocks in our hall so well that I know where the repair is and still cannot find it.”
