Aftercare

Look after it, and bring it back when you should not.

Ordinary soap, a soft cloth, and a workshop for anything with a stone that moves or a clasp that fails. The prices are samples.

By metal

Yellow gold

Wash in warm water with a drop of mild soap. A soft brush will reach under a setting. Rinse and dry with a lint-free cloth. Keep it away from chlorine bleach and from abrasive paste. Gold can scratch; a polish at the bench takes the fine marks off, not deep ones.

White gold

Treat it as you would yellow gold. Some white gold is plated with rhodium, which can wear at the edges over years and show a warmer colour beneath. That is a surface, not a fault in the metal. We can discuss replating in person; this page does not quote it.

Rose gold

The colour comes from the copper in the alloy, not from a coating. It can dull slightly with wear. Soap, water and a cloth are enough at home. Do not use a dip that is meant for silver.

Silver

Silver tarnishes, especially near rubber, wool and some foods. A silver polishing cloth is the right tool at home. Wash first if there is cream or soap on it. Do not put silver in a bath with stones you cannot identify.

Stones

If a claw looks thin or a stone rattles, stop wearing the piece and book a repair assessment. Do not use a home ultrasonic cleaner. We have not graded the stones shown on this site, and we do not state a treatment or a source here.

Repair prices

A “from” price is the lowest sample on a straightforward job. Stones, hollow work and very thin bands change it. You get a figure before we start.

How a repair works

  1. Book or bring it in

An assessment visit, or leave it during opening hours. We look at the joint, the claws and the clasp.

  2. A price, before work

We say what we would do and what it costs. If you would rather not, you take the piece away.

  3. The bench

Most small jobs are a few days. A resize with a stone setting can be longer. We will say which.

  4. Collection

You try it on here. A resize that does not fit is looked at again.
