How Georgia’s digital economy grew

Atlanta is founded as "Terminus"

The literal surveyed endpoint of the Western & Atlantic Railroad. It was renamed Marthasville in 1843, then Atlanta in 1845.

A corporate hub built on a railroad junction

Atlanta wasn’t founded organically — it was staked out in 1837 as the endpoint of the Western & Atlantic Railroad, and by 1846 two more rail lines converged on the same spot. That connectivity is still the city’s defining asset. Four major headquarters converge on one metro today: Coca-Cola (invented in Atlanta in 1886), Delta Air Lines (headquartered there since 1941), Home Depot (founded in the area in 1978) and UPS (moved its HQ from Seattle in 1991). Eighteen Fortune 500 companies are headquartered statewide, sixteen of them in metro Atlanta — the 8th-highest concentration of any US metro.

The world’s busiest airport, verified current

Hartsfield-Jackson has held the #1 spot for passenger traffic every year since 1998 except 2020. The most recent full-year figures, released by the industry’s own governing body in 2026, show Atlanta handled 106.3 million passengers in 2025 — ahead of Dubai and Tokyo Haneda, the third-highest total on record for the airport itself.

How Georgia businesses buy websites

Metro Atlanta’s corporate giants get the headlines, but most of Georgia’s businesses are the trades, clinics and shops serving Atlanta’s suburbs, Savannah’s port economy, and towns across the rest of the state.

Trades and home services

Metro Atlanta sprawls across dozens of counties — be specific about which ones you actually serve.

Professional and B2B services

A logistics and corporate hub rewards clarity about exactly what you do and for whom.

Shops and hospitality

Clear hours and location, readable on a phone, matter as much in Macon or Savannah as they do in Atlanta.

Why FastSites works here
