Writing Static Hymn in a rented room in Lisbon
The window faced a tram stop. Every take had a bell in it, so I kept the bell.

I rented the room for eleven nights and used nine of them. The landlord left a piano that was a quarter-tone flat in the middle register. I did not tune it. Static Hymn sits on that disagreement.

The vocal was one take, sung toward the hallway so the room would answer. You can hear the answer if you turn it up past polite. That is the hymn: not the melody, the return.
We mixed with the lamp on and the overhead off. Ivo kept asking if the noise floor was intentional. It was. A clean vocal would have sounded like it arrived from somewhere else.
