Materials & finishes
The example sheets name a material and a finish for each piece. Here is what those words mean, so you can name them in your own brief.

Material
What the sheets use
- Steel tube
- Round or hollow section used for rails and frames. Seen on: Mezzanine guardrail bay.
- Flat bar
- Flat strip steel, used with tube for a rail run. Seen on: Mezzanine guardrail bay.
- Square steel tube
- Square hollow section for rigid frames. Seen on: Doorway canopy frame.
- Steel plate
- Flat plate, cut and drilled for bases and mounts. Seen on: Equipment base rebuild.
Finish
How the work is left
- Joints ground flush, uncoated
- Weld joints are ground level with the surrounding surface and the steel is left uncoated. Seen on: Mezzanine guardrail bay.
- Mill surface, ready for coating
- The steel keeps the surface it has from the mill, ready for whatever coating you plan. Seen on: Doorway canopy frame.
- Edges deburred
- Sharp burrs left by cutting and drilling are removed from the edges. Seen on: Equipment base rebuild.
Material, fit, and finish are settled with you on each job. These are examples of the kind of thing a job can name.
