About

Two printers, a framer, and a press that prefers bold shapes.

Plate & Pigment is an independent studio for risograph and other short-run print. We publish editions by the residents, take on custom jobs, and teach the odd Saturday. The address on this site is fictional. The enthusiasm for a badly-behaved overlap is not.

How a print gets made

You bring a separation, or we help you make one. Each colour is a stencil on a drum. We print the whole stack in the first ink, change the drum, and send the paper through again. Registration is close on purpose and never clinically perfect. When the edition is counted, we pencil the number on the back and clean up.

Custom work follows the same drums: posters, zines, flyers, small art editions. If a photograph needs a full-colour offset printer, we will say so rather than force it through a stencil.
