Straight answers

If a sentence is not here, it is not a promise. Prices stay indicative until a survey.

Price and survey

Is the online quote the price I will pay?

No. It is an indicative range from sample rates. A survey checks the cable route, the fusebox and the earthing. Only the quote after that survey is a price you can accept.

Can a charger be installed without a survey?

No. Volt Lane does not install a charger from the online range alone. The survey is what makes the work safe and the price fixed.

How long does an installation take?

A straightforward home visit is often a few hours on site. Permission, parts or a difficult route can make the wait much longer. The survey is what dates the job.

Electrics and safety

What does the certificate cover?

A qualified electrician completes the job in line with BS 7671, the UK wiring regulations, and Building Regulations. You are given a certificate when that work is finished.

What is a kilowatt?

A kilowatt (kW) is how fast electricity can flow. A 7.4 kW home charger is the usual maximum on a normal single-phase house. It is not a promise of a certain number of miles.

What is a consumer unit?

It is the fusebox. If it is old, or it lacks the right safety device, it may need work before a charger can be added. Saying 'I don't know' is a valid answer. The survey looks.

Permission and grants

I rent. Can I still have a charger?

Often, yes, but only with the landlord or freeholder's permission. Work does not start without it. You may be able to apply for a grant. The scheme decides, not the installer.

I park on the street. Will you fit a cable across the pavement?

Not as a promise. A kerbside solution may need local council permission. The quote explains the options and nothing is booked as if permission already exists.

Will I receive a grant?

Nobody on this site can say that. You may be able to apply. Eligibility is decided by the scheme administrator. Do not have the charger installed until the scheme confirms you are eligible.

Still unsure?

The survey answers what a page cannot.
