The supply
The consumer unit (the fusebox) is opened. The electrician looks at its age and whether it has the protective devices a charger needs. They also identify the earthing arrangement, the safety path that clears a fault. You do not need to know the letters TN-S, PME or TT before the visit. “I don’t know” is the right answer if you don’t.
The route
Where the charger would go, how the cable gets there, and what is in the way: a path, a garden, a neighbour’s wall. On-street parking raises a further question the survey cannot grant by itself: whether the council allows a pavement channel.
Permission and signal
Renting, leasing, or using a communal bay means someone else may have to say yes. App features need Wi-Fi or a mobile signal at the wall. A missing signal does not, on its own, stop a basic install.
After the visit you get a fixed quote you can refuse. If you go ahead, the work is done by a qualified electrician to BS 7671 and Building Regulations, and you receive a certificate.
