Questions, answered
Is FastPicker free?
Yes — completely free. No signup, no license key, no trial period. It is part of the FastSites toolkit.
How is this different from the Free Browser Colour Picker?
The browser tool works with palettes inside a web page. FastPicker is a Windows desktop eyedropper — it picks colours from anything on your screen: other apps, images, videos, even other monitors.
Does it need an internet connection?
No. FastPicker is fully offline — nothing leaves your machine. Settings live locally in %AppData%\FastSitesPicker.
Do I need to install anything?
No installer and no runtime to set up — it ships as a single self-contained .exe. Download it, double-click it, and it runs. Copy the file anywhere you like.
Windows showed a SmartScreen warning — is that normal?
Yes. New downloads that are not code-signed commonly trigger SmartScreen. Click “More info”, then “Run anyway”. FastPicker is open source, so you can also audit the code and build the exe yourself with one double-click of build.bat.
Why does my first pick never come back black?
Screen capture on Windows is notoriously flaky — so FastPicker uses a hardened pipeline shared with RulerFast: opaque pixel formats, native capture with managed fallbacks, every frame verified with automatic retries, and a warm-up capture at startup.
