Four workshops

We work with four small workshops. There are no awards on this page, and no badges. Just where they are, and what they use.

Devon · Stoneware and ceramic

Ada Pell

Ada throws mugs, jugs and vases on a slow wheel in a small Devon studio. She uses a pale stoneware body and keeps the glazes to oatmeal, cream and clay. Each piece is stamped on the foot, and no two lips are identical.

Yorkshire · Oak and brass

Wren Workshop

Tom and Leila Wren make boards, trays, bookends and small brass pieces in a Yorkshire barn. The oak is finished with oil, not a thick varnish, so it can be scrubbed and will darken with use. The brass is unlacquered.

Scottish Borders · Linen and wool

Mara & Co

Mara Singh sews washed linen and undyed wool in the Scottish Borders. The cloth is cut simply, with a plain hem. Colours stay close to the fibre: oatmeal, olive, and a clay-dyed wool.

Norfolk · Candles

Holm Candle Co

Ellis Holm pours soy wax into reusable glass in a Norfolk workshop. The wicks are cotton. Scents are fig leaf and cedarwood — described as they smell, without a claim beyond that. The tealights are unscented.
