Inside the cutting room

Solenne is cut upstairs, on a table you can see from the stair.

Oak cutting table with shears, spools and paper patterns.

The block is a size 10, graded here, with a slightly longer back waist because we were tired of shirts coming untucked on the walk to the station. That is the whole secret. There is no mythology attached to the shears.

Cloth arrives as a roll. We lay it by hand and cut a small number. The shirt dress is on the straight. The column is cut with almost no ease through the hip, which is why measuring beats remembering the size you wore somewhere else. If you are between the chart and your own preference for ease, tell us. We would rather recut a hem than pretend every body matches the sample.

You can see a toile if you are ordering something altered. Appointments are short and kept in the book, not in an app. Write via the contact form — in this demonstration the note stays on your device — or telephone the shop.

What we will not do is describe the studio as a destination. It is a working room. If you come up, mind the pins.
