Isla wanted the walled garden to do the talking, so the flowers stayed low and the speeches were short. Jonah’s family travelled in from Glasgow and needed a clear afternoon, not a packed one. We kept the ceremony at one o’clock, drinks on the lawn while the light was kind, and a single long table inside when the wind picked up. The day felt unhurried because the order of it had been agreed months before.

A Friday in October, black tie, and a room with more glass than wall. Amara was clear that the evening should feel like a dinner they would have hosted anyway, only larger. We worked with the hotel on a seated meal, a short ceremony in the same room, and a band that started while people were still at pudding. The running order lived on one page that both families could read.

Freya grows flowers for a living and did not want a barn dressed to look like a ballroom. Tomas cared most about the food and about his grandmother being able to hear. We planned a late-morning ceremony, a long lunch, and an evening that stayed acoustic until the older guests had gone home. The tables were round, the linen was borrowed from the venue, and the menu was written in plain English.

A January Saturday, deliberately small, with candles doing the work the garden could not. Priya’s parents wanted a proper meal and a priest they knew; Callum wanted everyone in from the cold before dusk. We built the day around one fireplace, a short walk from ceremony to table, and a car for anyone who did not want the gravel in heels. The invitations went out early because winter trains fill up.

Elise and Noah chose a working vineyard and accepted that a grape harvest does not pause for a wedding. We planned the ceremony under cover, a drinks hour among the rows only if the ground was dry, and a supper that used the estate’s own wine without turning the day into a tasting. Guest transport from the station was the detail that saved the afternoon.

Forty-eight people, a chapel ten minutes from the sea, and a supper in a hired house rather than a marquee. Hannah did not want a reception that felt imported. Matteo’s family flew in and needed the day to finish in time for tired children. We wrote a timeline with slack in it, booked taxis before anyone asked, and kept the flowers to what would stand up to salt air.

A large family wedding across two days, with a welcome supper on the Friday and a formal Saturday. Niamh was firm about the ceremony staying personal even though the room was grand. Owen wanted the ceilidh and the seating plan to be kind to people who had not met. We coordinated both days, including room lists, a bagpiper only for the arrival, and a second planner on the Saturday so no one was waiting in a corridor.

Thirty-six guests around two tables in a hired townhouse dining room. Sofia and James had already lived together for years and wanted a wedding that felt like a particularly good dinner, with a registrar and a dress. We helped them choose the room, the menu and a photographer who is used to low light, and we ran the day so they could sit down.

Beatrice had visited the orangery as a child and wanted to be married under the same glass. Arthur’s request was simpler: shade, water, and a seating plan that put his father near an aisle. We planned a noon ceremony, a shaded drinks hour, and a meal before the hottest part of the afternoon had passed. Parasols were hired. Nobody had to pretend they enjoyed standing in full sun.

A house on a lake, with a marquee only as insurance. Leila and Sam both walk, and they liked the idea of guests arriving along the water rather than through a car park speech. We planned for mud, for a short ceremony, and for a kitchen that could feed a hundred if the marquee went up. It stayed dry. The backup plan still earned its place on the page.

A village chapel that holds ninety, and a marquee in the next field for everyone else. Clara and Ben knew the split would be the awkward part, so we designed the walk between the two with umbrellas, a musician, and someone at each door. The service stayed traditional. The meal did not try to be. Children had an earlier supper and a clear place to be during speeches.

A clearing with permission to gather, compost loos, and a field kitchen. Maya and Rowan cared more about the place than about matching chairs. We helped them with the unglamorous list: insurance, timings for a generator, a wet-weather barn ten minutes away, and a meal that could be eaten standing if the benches sank. The ceremony was twenty minutes. People stayed until the midges did.
