How Nottingham grew
The short version, in order. Pick a year.
The first computer program
Ada Lovelace’s notes on Babbage’s Analytical Engine described how it could compute Bernoulli numbers — and grasped that a machine handling numbers could handle anything you could represent as numbers.
Ada Lovelace lies a few miles north of the city
Ada Lovelace wrote what is generally regarded as the first computer program: her notes on Charles Babbage’s Analytical Engine, describing how it could compute Bernoulli numbers, published in 1843. She understood something Babbage arguably did not — that a machine handling numbers could handle anything numbers could represent.
She died in 1852, aged thirty-six, and was buried at her own request in the Byron family vault at St Mary Magdalene in Hucknall, a few miles north of Nottingham, beside the father she never knew.
The programming language Ada is named for her. There is a reasonable argument that the software industry has a grave in Nottinghamshire.
What that means if you trade in Nottingham
Nottingham is a compact city with two universities, a large student population and a ring of established towns that behave like separate markets. Businesses here often serve a much wider patch than the city name implies.
It is also a value-conscious city. Publishing prices tends to help rather than hurt, because the alternative is a customer assuming the worst and ringing somebody else.

Say where you really go
Beeston, West Bridgford, Arnold and Hucknall are separate journeys. Listing them beats claiming the county.
Term time matters
If students are your market, the year has a shape. Say when you are busiest and book accordingly.
Prices up front
Value-aware customers filter on cost first. Silence loses the enquiry.
