Maren Ashdown

Maren Ashdown was born in 1984 in Merehaven, Dorset, and spent eight years as a land-registry clerk before she admitted the margin notes were the job she actually wanted.

The Ashen Crown began as a set of those notes: tide-stakes, a fire clause nobody could explain at the front desk, and a tree she was not supposed to put in a ledger. She still writes as if someone might audit the paragraph.

She lives within walking distance of a real salt wind and a fictional coast. She does not claim the coast is based on a particular bay. She will say the paperwork is based on paperwork.
