Synopsis

The jacket, and only the jacket: Maris Quell returns toward a shore the Registry has started calling the Unspent Shore, carrying what the first three books gathered and the question they would not finish. The Kindling Accord is failing in small, clerical ways. The fourth shard of the Ashen Crown was never misplaced. It was spent. This book asks whether a realm can keep a promise without wearing it, and what a surveyor does when the thing to measure is a decision. Further events inside the book stay off this page until you say you want them.

Content notes
  • Jacket-level only.
  • Expect grief, argument, and fire. No sexual content is planned.
  • The book is not out. Treat rumours as rumours.
Reading group questions
  1. From the jacket alone, what does spent mean that lost does not?
  2. Should a painful accord be repaired, replaced, or left to fail in daylight?
  3. What would a spoiler-safe group refuse to guess?
  4. If you have not read the first three, the waiting is part of the work.
