Safest setting: lore that first appears in the books stays veiled.

The Ashen Crown · Maren Ashdown

Some fires are law. Some maps are apologies. The crown is late.

In the Hearthlands of Orvane, every coastal town keeps one public fire, and the Grey Tide is meant to stay beyond the orchards. Maris Quell measures the coast. The coast has started to answer in dust.

01 — The series

Four books. Three shards found. One spent.

The Accord

One unbanked public fire in every coastal town. In return the Grey Tide stays outside the salt-orchards. It is a contract, which is why the clerks are worried.

The crown

The Ashen Crown was grown, not forged: ember-glass from a tree that burned without being consumed. It cracked. The shards did not all go missing the same way.

The surveyor

Maris Quell inks tide-stakes for the Hearth Registry. She was hired for a steady hand. The hand has started finding things the ledger will not stamp.

03 — Where to begin

Not sure which book?

Four questions. The honest answer is usually book one. The quiz will say so, and it will also tell you if you only wanted the short story.
