Approach

Unhurried, relational, and clear about the frame.

  1. 01

    Write, in your own words

A short note is enough. You do not need a diagnosis, a neat story, or the right vocabulary.

  2. 02

    A first conversation

We meet for fifty minutes. It is a chance to see whether the fit feels right — not an assessment you can pass or fail.

  3. 03

    Ongoing work, reviewed

If we continue, we agree a rhythm and look at it together. Ending well is part of the work, not an afterthought.

Credentials and approach

Accredited, and clear about the frame.

Nora Pell · MBACP (Accred.) · Integrative counsellor

Nora works with adults who are capable in public and tired in private. She trained as a counsellor after a decade of teaching English, and still listens for the sentence underneath the sentence.

Sessions are in a quiet room in Clifton, or online if you are elsewhere in the UK. The work is confidential, boundaried, and reviewed — not open-ended by default, and not rushed to a moral.

MBACP Accredited
Nora is an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, and works under its ethical framework.
Integrative approach
Person-centred at the core, with a psychodynamic interest in patterns. The conversation follows what you need, not a fixed programme.
Clifton, and online in the UK
In person in Clifton, Bristol. Online by video for adults elsewhere in the UK. The street address is shared when a first session is agreed.
Accepting new clients
A small number of new places are open. If the week is full, the reply will say so plainly rather than leave you waiting.

Stories

How the work is sometimes described.

Written for this theme. They are not quotations from clients, and no outcome is promised.

Read the longer notes

The week it stopped being a performance

I kept arriving with an update, as if the session were a meeting. Somewhere in the third month I ran out of the update. What was left was quieter, and more useful. I still do not have a tidy ending. I have a little more room.

Grief that did not look like grief

I thought I was there about work. It took a while to say that my father had died the previous year and I had been extremely efficient about it. Saying that out loud did not fix the efficiency. It did stop me being quite so alone with it.

Two of us, and a third chair

We were polite in a way that was hurting us. Having someone else in the room, who was not on either side, let us hear the sentences we had been sanding down at home. We did not become a different couple. We became more accurate.

Questions

Plain answers, before you decide.

Fees, confidentiality, cancellations, and what a first session is actually like.

All questions
How do I know if counselling is for me?

You do not have to be in crisis, and you do not have to be certain. People come when something keeps snagging — a relationship, a grief, a low mood, a feeling of performing a life. If you are unsure, the enquiry itself can be tentative.

What happens in the first session?

We talk about what brings you, how you would like to use the time, and the practical frame: fees, confidentiality, and how often we might meet. You can ask anything. There is no obligation to book a second session.

How long does the work last?

Some people come for a handful of sessions around a particular knot. Others stay for a year or more. We review regularly so the length is a choice, not a drift.

Is it confidential?

Yes, with important limits. I keep brief notes. I do not share them casually. I would need to break confidentiality if I believed you or someone else was at serious risk of harm, or if a court required it. Those limits are talked through before we begin, and again if they ever become relevant.

Enquiry

A confidential note, when you are ready.

What a first session is like

  • A first session is 50 minutes. It is a chance to see whether the fit feels right — not an assessment.
  • You can ask about fees, confidentiality, and cancellations before you decide to continue.
  • There is no obligation to book a second session.

If you need urgent help. This is not a crisis service, and this form is not monitored overnight. If you are in immediate danger call 999. For emotional support, Samaritans are free on 116 123, at any hour.

Enquiry · demonstration form

Write a few lines, if you like.

Name, a way to reply, and as much or as little as you want. This demonstration does not store what you type. In a live practice it would go to a secure inbox, not a marketing list.

Optional. Please do not include sensitive clinical details here — those belong in the session, not in this form.

A reply within two working days. If you need help tonight, use the crisis lines above rather than this form. Privacy
