About

A quarterly that trusts you to stay.

The Quiet Edition publishes essays, criticism, fiction and interviews four times a year. We started in spring 2025 with Issue 01, First Light, because we wanted a magazine that did not shout to be heard.

The magazine is independent. It is not attached to a university, a newspaper or a platform. We print, in this telling, with Harbour & Co. in Bristol, on uncoated stock, and we correct our errors in the next issue and on this site. We pay for commissioned work and agree the fee before anyone writes. Letters are read with care and are not paid.

This website is a reading room for the edition. Three pieces in the current issue are printed here in full. The others appear as excerpts. Subscriptions, the shop, the newsletter and the pitch form are demonstrations: they keep what you type in this browser and send nothing on.

The people you will meet in the pages — Mira Ellison, Jonah Pell, Adele Voss and the rest — are fictional, as are the works they discuss. So is the town of Merrow, the bakery in Pell’s Cross, and the editor’s office at 18 Quiet Court.

Write to us at letters@thequietedition.example, or send a pitch through the guidelines. The address is The Quiet Edition, 18 Quiet Court, Bristol, BS8 4QE.
