FAQ
The questions, without the padding.
Deposits, Part P, how long the power is off, and what to do before we arrive. If yours is not here, the quote form is shorter than an email thread.
- Do you charge to quote?
- No. A look at the board and a written price is free inside our area. Emergency make-safe visits are charged, and we say the rate before we roll.
- How long is the power off for a new board?
- A straight swap is usually under four hours. If the tails need the network operator, that visit is booked before we start and the off-time is theirs plus ours.
- Can you work in a house we are living in?
- Yes. Rewires are sequenced so a kettle, a fridge and some lights come back each night. We photograph the room before we lift boards.
- Are you Part P registered?
- Yes. Notifiable work — new circuits, consumer units, bathrooms — is notified by us. You do not post the certificate to Building Control yourself.
- Will you certify someone else’s install?
- Only if we inspect it as if we had installed it, and only if it passes. We will not sign off a board we would not put our name on.
- What should we do while we wait for an emergency call-out?
- If you can reach the main switch without standing in water or smelling burning at the board, turn it off. Unplug everything on a tripping circuit. Do not open the cover. Stay on the phone if you are unsure.
- Do you cover outside Manchester?
- Inner boroughs are the core. Wilmslow and the nearer Cheshire postcodes are fine. Further than that, ask — we would rather refuse than pretend the emergency time still holds.
- How do deposits work?
- Board changes are paid on completion. Rewires and commercial jobs take a materials deposit, stated on the quote, never more than the gear we have to buy in.
