The anchors
Alongside that corporate anchor, the LHoFT — Luxembourg House of Financial Technology — opened on 24 April 2017 as a public-private fintech foundation, a deliberate government-backed bet on financial technology specifically, built on the country's much older identity as a financial centre.
One correction worth making plainly: despite reputation, recent reporting indicates the major hyperscalers — AWS, Azure, Google Cloud — connect to Luxembourg via extensions from Frankfurt or Paris rather than operating physical cloud regions inside the country itself, as of late 2025.
What that produces
A financial-services and fintech-policy economy of a scale wildly disproportionate to Luxembourg's population — corporate headquarters, EU financial regulation, and a deliberate government strategy layered on top of an already wealthy banking centre.
The buyer
Highly international, multilingual (French, German, Luxembourgish and English all function commercially), and corporate in register even for relatively small local businesses, simply because the surrounding economy is so corporate.
The practical read
Expect a multilingual, internationally-minded buyer even outside the financial sector proper — Luxembourg City's small size doesn't translate into a small-town business culture.

Caveats and sourcing
- Verifiable — Amazon's EU headquarters presence and employment figure, and the LHoFT's 2017 opening.
- Correction — this piece deliberately does not repeat the common claim that major hyperscale cloud regions operate physically inside Luxembourg; current reporting says otherwise.
- Characterising claims — the description of the local business register is interpretation.
